Mosquito Heaven Farm
Welcome to Mosquito Heaven Farm! We are located
on about 4 acres of stony, New Hampshire land (zone 4, for those of you up on
the US Hardiness Zone designations); roughly half of the land is brush or
wooded -- all this to give you the
feeling for "small scale." We are in the process of clearing and
expanding our flower-growing area, but nothing happens very fast up here in the
northcountry. Nonetheless, I grow (proportionally) an enormous variety of
unusual and hard to find perennial and annual flowers each spring. I don't grow
an enormous volume,
you understand; instead, I concentrate on growing things many people have never
seen and won't find at a local garden center -- or single colors of plants more
normally found in mixes.
My plant choices are heavily weighted to
varieties that cut nicely. I have a small cut flower subscription service, so I
grow many more cutting flowers than bedding plants. You can preorder seedlings
and plants from me, then pick them up in late May when they're ready to plant
out. If you'd like to receive a copy of my Early-Orders Specials list (when
it's ready), send me email and I'll put you
on the mailing list. I regret that I am not equipped to mail plants to people.
I've posted a "face book" of the
annual, perennial and vegetable seedlings and plants I'm growing this year.
Since there are so many "common" names, I generally try to identify
plants by their Latin names. Since lots of people haven't a clue what Hunnemania fumariifolia actually looks like (and to be frank, I
can't spell it without looking it up), something like a "face book"
is an absolute necessity.
Because there are so many photographs, the pages
load fairly slowly. Please be patient.

Seedlings and larger plants will be ready for
pick-up at the Farm toward the end of May. I email customers to let them know
when plants are ready.
I'm always happy to answer questions (or at
least, to TRY to answer questions), so if you're curious about the plants I'm
growing, feel free to email. I don't have
regular retail hours, but if you're in the area and would like to schedule a
visit to the farm, just email and we'll set something up.
Seed sources (and other useful links)
There are lots of wonderful, helpful and
knowledgeable garden and horticulture folks around -- and an ever-increasing
number of seed and plant suppliers, too. Below, I've listed some of my
favorites -- not an exhaustive list by any means, merely some places to start.
Wildseed Farms -- wildflowers and
herbs, a truly beautiful (and informative) catalog.
Johnny's Selected Seeds -- great variety and
super service!
Park
Seed
-- excellent service and a wide selection of flowers and vegetables.
The
Cook's Garden -- heirloom vegetables, herbs and flowers.
Thompson
& Morgan -- COMPREHENSIVE selection of flowering plants and a catalog I
use as a reference tool all season long.
Seeds of
Change -- heirloom vegetables, gourmet greens, herbs, flowers... and all
100% Certified Organic Seed.
Seeds of Distinction -- unusual and hard to
find seeds from all over the world.

I'm interested in your comments -- and I'll try
to answer your questions. Please feel free to send me e-mail.
In addition to running the farm, I do a number
of other things. In no particular order, I am also the author of eight (soon to
be nine) published books,
an Episcopal priest serving St. Barnabas' Church in Norwich, VT, a classical
musician (I play recorders, sing, teach and coach chamber music), an avid
knitter, an equestrian pursuing dressage and participating in the Breckenridge
Farm Blue Angels Drill Team, a voracious reader, and the "mother" of
three very spoiled cats.
